Plays in good form ; a splendid field ; at times successful as a slow round-arm bowler ; did not play for Surrey last year . DIVER, E. J. A very fine bat , having great powers of wrist , which he uses to thebest advantage ; a good field anywhere. G A M E, W. H. (Sherborne and Oxford) . A batsman with a style of his own, but hits hard, and is very dangerous if allowed to get set ; a fine long- field , with a sharp throw in ; plays little first -class cricket now. H O R N E R, C. E. (Cheltenham and Oxford). A very useful fast round-arm bowler ; moderate bat and field ; was invaluable to the County as a bowler, andhad few superiors on his form of 1884 . LINDSAY, W. (Winchester ) . Agood bat, with a pretty cut ; a splendid field , anda sure catch ; did not playlast seascn. R E A D, W. W. One of the very best batsmen of the day; plays very straight , and hits all round with great freedom ; a fine field anywhere, and can also keep wicket (Hon. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1883 ). R O L L E R, W . E. ( WestminsterandCambridge). Hits well all round, with im- proveddefence ; hardly so successful last year ; safe in the field ; a good bowler(medium), in which department he was of great use . SHUTER, J. ( Winchester ). A pretty bat, playing very hard, especially on the off -side ; a splendid field . TROLLOPE, W. S. (Westminster ). Goodbat, and at times effective fast round 12 a r mbowler. BAINBRIDGE, H. W. (Eton and Cambridge) and K. J. K E Y(Clifton and Oxford) play for Surrey . S U S S E X . B L A C K M A N, A. Goodbat and fast right -hand bowler ; is also a good field . B L A C K M A N, W. Good all -round cricketer ; fast right hand bowler ; a free hitter and splendid field ; was in fine form last season . ELLIS, R. T. A very effective bat, with strong defence ; energetic field ; was not so successful last year . GREENFIELD, Rev. F. F. J. (Cambridge) . A run-getting bat ; bowls slow ; did not play for the Countylast season. LUCAS, C. J. Goodbat and field , and occasional bowler ; did not play for the Countylast season . LUCAS, M. P. (Harrow and Cambridge). A splendid bat ; excellent field ; occasional bowler ; did not play for the County last season . LUCAS, F. M. (Cambridge ) . A fine left -hand batsman , with good hitting powers ; requires a little more energy in the field ; did not play for the County last season . M C C O R M I C K , E. J. A promising bat ; occasional right-arm bowler, and good field ; played some good innings last season . N E W H A M, W. One of the best amateur batsmen; plays in good style , and is a capital field ; can also keep wicket ; obtained the highest batting average last season for the County. SHARP, C. A good left -handed bat ; hits hard ; a hard-working field , and occasional bowler ; played in a few matches for the County, but was not very suceessful . W H I T F E L D, H. (Eton and Cambridge). A good safe bat, and brilliant field ; played some splendid innings for his County last season , and worked hard as Captain. W Y A T T, G. N. (Cheltenham). Goodbat and fine field ; played a fine innings of 112for the Countyagainst the Australians. SMITH, C. A. (Cambridge). Did not play for the County in 1884. I
