A fair bat on a hard wicket ; slow in the field , considering that heis such a fast sprint runner; lacks energy. CLOWES, H. ST. J. (Cheltenham). Played occasionally for the County ; batted well against Sussex at Brighton. CRANSTON, J. One of the best, if not the very best , left-handed bat in Eng- land ; does not play muchfirst -class cricket ; a very fair field . FAIRBANKS, W. (Clifton and Cambridge ). Useful all -round , being a neat bat and good field ; plays little first -class cricket now. FRANCIS, G U Y(Cheltenham). A useful all -round cricketer ; fair bat. G A R N E, W. H. Good bat and field ; promising cricketer . GILBERT, W. R. Plays steady , sound cricket ; very useful all -round to the county ; is a good field , and at times an effective slow round-armbowler. G R A C E, E. M. Still a very effective bat, with a good eye for hitting ; plays in a style of his own; a splendid field , and even nowhas no superior at point . G R A C E, W. G. Still one of the very best batsmen of the day; hits all-round freely , and times the ball with extraordinary precision ; his bowling has lost some of its spin ; a brilliant field anywhere, and never loses interest in the game; despite an injury to his leg in the middle of the season , played in fine form, especially against the Australians. L E A T H A M, A. E. A good field close to the wicket , but not safe in the long- field ; bowls left round medium; a better cricketer than he appeared for the County. M O B E R L Y, W. O. (Rugbyand Oxford). A first -class bat, drives with great power, and hitting well all -round ; a brilliant field ; plays little first -class cricket. PEAKE, E. (Marlborough and Oxford ). At times a very dangerous fast bowler ; hits hard ; played little last year. P U L L E N, W. W. F. Afine bat, with a capital stroke just in front of point ; good field ; played some fine innings for the County, notably against the Australiansa n dMiddlesex. TAYLOR, E. J. (Rugby). A fair bat and field , and not to be despised as a wicket-keeper , though , unfortunately , his hands will not stand it long . T O W N S E N D, F. A first -rate batsman, with good hitting -power all round ; a fine field ; at times a successful " lob " bowler. VIZARD, W. O. (Clifton ). A very good bat on a fast wicket with forward play ; butnotmuchuse on a slow wicket ; is slow but safe in the field . J. H. BRAIN(Clifton and Oxford), and H. V. PAGE(Cheltenham and Oxford) play for Gloucestershire . H A M P S H I R E . ANDREWS, A. A very good bat; has great defence ; played excellent cricket during the season ; unfortunately cannot play very often for the County . ARMSTRONG, H. A useful medium pace right -handed bowler ; a good bat, having greatly improved this season . BENCRAFT, R. Agood bat, hitting hard on the off -side ; is a safe catch ; bowls occasionally ; did not play last year.
