CONSIDERINGthe generally hard wickets , andthe consequent amount of work that fell to them, the bowlers acquitted themselves with credit . Spofforth's figures well deserve a line to themselves , and his record is extraordinary . Attewell last season , byexceptionally good bowling , brought himself quite to the front , and, as will be seen , his summaryis a very good one . Emmetthas rarely been more successful , and his bowling was really wonderful , looking at his long career as a cricketer . Mr. Horner proved of immense service to Surrey ; but the amateurs generally , even those of the highest reputation , were expensive . Alfred Shawdid some excellent performances for Notts , and he has lost little if any of his skill . The doings of the other bowlers will be gathered from the appended list . Surrey introduced a very likely new bowler in the youngest Lohmann, and Kentanother promising colt in A. Hearne, the youngest of the threebrothers. 2 0 0O RM O R EW I C K E T SD U R I N GS E A S O N . Spofforth , F. R.. Overs. Maidens. Runs. Wickets.
