1 8 0 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' A N N U A L. DulwichCollege.-A. G. Christmas : has improved in his batting (which is left-handed) ; his defence is very stubborn , and his hitting good all round, especially to leg andthe forward drive ; his fielding , likewise , has improved ; is a good change right- handedfast bowler. A. P. Douglas : a very painstaking cricketer , and, as was expected last season , has madevery great improvement, as his average will show, he gets very hard o nthe ball, and plays the gamethoroughly ; splendid field anywhere, andgood change wicket -keeper . J. Fawcett a good bat, playing correct cricket ; is too anxious ; will however improve as he gains confidence ; a good, hard-working field , but somewhat nervous; this will wear off with practice . F. H. Johnstone : a first -class bowler, being always able to keep his end up for a long time ; breaks the ball well with a good pace ; is mostdangerous on a bad wicket ; bats rather stiff , wants practice ; is a very good field off his o w nbowling. P. T. P. Knott : a very good cricketer , his hitting being exceptionally good, andhitting well all round; always goes in first ; one of the very best points , m a d e some grand catches during the past season ; good medium-pace change bowler, and fairwicket-keeper. W. R. M. Leake a really good cricketer , his hitting being good, and defence strong ; hasbeen rather unfortunate ,having been run out several times whenwell set; Captain of the team, is very popular , well fitted for the post ; good judge of the game, andworksvery hard for his side ; athoroughly reliable field ,andfair change bowler. S. G. Manfield : one of the very best long-legs and cover-points out, and delights in fielding ; is a sure catch , and has a splendid return ; fair bat. G. M. Pratt : an average bat,playing very strong onthe on-side , must try, however, to improve on the off ; a good medium-pacebowler ,but must try more to vary the pace than break the ball ; his delivery is sure to pay, the ball getting up sharp from the pitch; is a fair field , but somewhat slow. E. G. Rand: a good fast bowler, mustpitch the ball upand not be afraid of being hit; his batting will improve muchwith practice at the nets ; must always be on the alert at slip . J. A. Reid ; a splendid hard hitter , but mustattend to his defence ; with practice will makea first-rate bat; the wicket-keeper of the team. H. G. Wyld: should turn out a first -class cricketer , his batting being sound and good; must, however, throw more energy into the game; a good change bowler, but slow field . Hilder , Capt. (15.1 ) : captained the eleven with good success ; a pretty batwith sure defence , notably v. M.C.C. and Ground, whenhe wasat the wickets forty minutes for five runs ; at times takes wickets . H. E. Bouch (8.12 ) : an invaluable fast bowler; hardhitting bat, andmoderate field . T. T. Harratt (10.3 ) : a very painstaking bat,has improved greatly since last year ; a good medium-pace bowler, breaking from the leg; sharp andsure fielder at point . F. G. Hawks(4.3) : though not successful in batting took immensepains ; a goodfield . C. L Stanley (8.2): the prettiest and one of the best bats in the eleven ; plays with extreme care, his cutting being remarkably clean ; good in the field , and should be of muchvalue in future . E. E. Lewis (8) : a rapid hitter , but has very little defence ; good catch . O. W. Street (7.10 ) : a steady bat ; a lazy and poor field . W . S. Lewis (3.8) : poor bat ; fields pretty well at times ; useful change bowler. E. F. Nicholls (2.4 ) : long-stops well; poor bat. F. J. Nicholls (5.8) : rather too careful in batting , not hitting out half enough ; smart fielder , returning the ball very accurately . C. P. Norsworthy (7.1 ) : wants a good coaching , which would undoubtedly bring him out a useful cricketer ; is very energetic , at times doing well. +Winnerof AverageBat.
