Paterson : A very good bat whenset, but too apt to be out first over ; improved in fielding . W. P. Gornall : Unaccountably fallen off in batting , but improving again towards end of season ; good left bowler on a fast wicket ; very fine field . A. Pearson : In practice the best bat of the eleven , but seldom gets set in a match ; an excellent field , andcan bowl a little . A. S. Caldwell : Very variable in his wicket -keeping ; a promising bat. J. B. Harvey : Played one or two fine innings , but usually too tame; a fair field , but rather slow . F. Woodhead : Gets runs in a style of his own; has great pluck and perseverance ; can field and bowl a little . J. J. Smeaton : Thebest bowler in the eleven , and maybecomevery good indeed ; a good field , and an improving and confident batsman. L. B. Moubray : A fair cricketer all round, but lacks nerve . H. BPaton : Verypromising bat and field , butmust avoid flourish . P. H. Morrison : Theyoungest memberof the eleven , but bids fair to be an excellent all -round player ; a very hard hitter .
