UPPINGHAMELEVENIN 1884 .-*Η. Ν. B. Richardson (Captain ) : A good straight bat ; can drive and hit well to leg , but rather short of confidence ; a good field , and, having a thorough knowledge of the game, has proved himself agood captain . W. F. Whitwell : Has proved himself a useful all -round player ; as a bat , has decidedly improved since last year , hitting well all -round ; a steady , medium-pace bowler, safe catch , and good field . *T. E. Eccles : Has played muchbetter towards the end of the season ; is able to punish bad bowling ; fair change bowler ; fields well at point . L. Martineau : Is a sound bat w h o mwe hope tohear more of next year , whenhe will be able to hit harder ; has played well throughout the season ; a good slow bowler and fair field . (Captain next year). A. C. Lascelles : As a bat is very short of confidence , which makes his play tame : fair change bowler, and good field anywhere. H. P. Jillard : Has rather disappointed us ; as a bat he promised well at the beginning of the season but has fallen off very muchowing to indisposition ; slack in the field . A. N. Clegg : Unfortunately strained his knee early in the season ; as a bat is rather uncertain ; a splendid catch and good out-field . J. F. Whitwell : Plays very correct cricket and has good defence ; a fair field . D. B. Maurice : A useful bat,but very wild ; keeps wicket fairly well . P. Castle : Plays well at times ; has plenty of confidence ; fields well , but is slow after the ball ; fair change bowler. B. L. Learmonth : Improving bat ; change bowler ; fair field . G 2
