T H EU N I V E R S I T I E SA N DP U B L I CS C H O O L SI N 1 8 8 4. 1 5 9 long-field and a steady bat. *J. Blackwall : Has hardly scored as well this year as might have been expected from his last year's play ; a good bat, but lacks strength ; very useful as a change bowler ; a poor field . * C. E. Tunnicliffe : Has improved greatly in his batting , hits hard, but is not very certain ; in bowling hehas rather disappointed us, though it is only fair to say that the wickets have not suited him; the most brilliant field in the team ; a sure catch . *H. Lockhart : Seemsto have lost his pitch as a slow bowler ; in batting improved greatly towards the end of the season ; hits hard and well on the off -side ; a good field at point . *T. J. T. Robinson : Has played some good innings during the year ; a persevering bat , but very uncertain , he requires more freedom in his hitting ; a poor field . A. L. Hudson : A good bat, but far too anxious to score quickly ; withpatience should do very well indeed next year ; a most useful bowler and frequently very destructive ; a very good long field . *B. Heaton : The most reliable bat in the eleven , very rarely failing to score ; hits hard and well when set ; a fair fast bowler, buttoooften sacrifices pitch for pace ; a goodfield . *E. A . Watson: Fell off in batting towards the end of the season ; hits well to the off, but is very weak on the leg side ; a moderate field . F. M. Wheatley : A s our slowbowlerhe has been most successful , although, as a rule, the wickets have not suited him ; uses great judgment , and has a very easy delivery ; a poor bat; can field whenhe tries . *G. M. Mellor : Ahard-hitting bat, though very uncertain ; he improved considerably as the season advanced ; has kept wicket with great success . *F. G. Luard: A fair bat, though rather uncertain ; in our most important match he played an excellent innings ; a good field , but should p a ym o r eattention to throwingin. R U G B Y S C H O O L .
