Terry (Captain ) ; A remarkably suc- cessful bat, with tremendous hitting powers, punishing loose bowling severely ; first -rate wicket -keeper ; most efficient captain ; plays for Somerset . M. H. Paine : A good bat, but lacks confidence ; has played somegood innings ; useful fast bowler . W. Higgins : A very patient but lucky bat ; good cover -point . S. F. Cartwright : A very steady bat, with good defence ; smart field a point. E.B. Napier : Hits well , but lacks detence ; O nhis day a mostdangerous fast bowler, but at times somewhaterratic . W. A. Locker : Hits with more energy thandiscretion ; fair field and good catch . C. G. Wade: A very powerful bat and fair fast bowler. E. C. Marsh : A very pretty bat, with good forward play ; in the field uncertain , but with good return . R. W. C. Hunt : Amoderate bat, but improved towards end of season ; a fair field . H. G. Mirehouse : A poor bat, but most successful slow bowler, with good break from off . W. Fellgate : Poorbat ; slovenly but energetic field ; fair change bowler . W.K Steele : A sa bat lacks defence , but occasionally hits well ; fair field .
