Key (Clifton and Oriel) : A good anddependablehat, withlots of confidence ; fields well on the ground, but is by no means a safe catch ; gets a wicket occasionally . B. E. Nicholls (Winchester and Magdalen) : A wonderfully good field at short slip , and inade a surprising numberof catches there ; a run-getting bat in rustic style ; useful bowler , but hardly kept up his school reputation in that depart- ment of the game. H. V. Page (Cheltenham and Wadham) : Like his captain amostdetermined cricketer , and was very successful with the bat for the Uni- versity ; got too fond of " pulling " though later in the season , trying the stroke muchtoo frequently ; a very steady medium pace bowler , and can last all day ; a good and plucky field . Captain for 1885. H. O. Whitby (Leamington and Merton) : Thefast bowler of the eleven , and a very good one too, with a nice easy action ; should be even better next year, whenhe gets stronger ; hits hard, a n dtolerablefield.
