Bastard (Sherborne and W a d h a m) : A good slow left -handed bowler, though hedoes not seem to get as manywickets , as he ought to do; he has improved in batting since last year, but his fielding is verymoderate. J. H. Brain (Clifton and Oriel) : A nice free bat, with a good style ; plays very straight ; should become quite first -rate ; did very well for his county; a magnificent field ; can keep wicket , and his bowling is decidedly worth a trial . T. C. O'Brien (Private and N e wInn Hall) : A nimmense acqui- sition to the eleven , and had a most successful season ; is a splendid punishing bat, driving andcutting especially well ; a safe field and catch , and can bowl a good head ball . E. H. Buckland ( Marlborough ) : A useful all -round man, very straight and accurate slow bowler, but has not got muchbreak . though he uses his head well ; a moderate bat and field . L. D. Hildyard (Private and Magdalen) : A good bat and field ; but was fortunate in obtaining a place in the teain , as he was put in at the last momentalmost without a trial . T. R. Hine-Haycock (Wellington and N e w) : Athoroughly hard-working cricketer ; a goodbat with strong defence andgreat patience ; a capital field . M. С. Кетр (Harrowand Hertford) : W a sin great form in all the Oxford matches ; a mostdetermined bat, being especially good at a pinch ; kept wicket excellently , a first rate Captain, possessing plenty of decision , and inspiring his menwith confidence ; has just reason to be proud of a most successful record , his eleven
