Bates scored 133 , Hall 116, and Grimshaw 115- three batsmen thus contributing a hundred in the same innings , a feat unpre- cedented in an important match in England till the previous Thursday . " Extras" furnished 68 of the Yorkshiretotal. Mr. J . A .Turner's second score of 63 not out was the only noteworthy feature of the University bat- ting . Yorkshire wonby an innings and 203 runs . Bradford, June 9 and 10. 6 Murdoch was unable to play in this match for the Australians , and Alexander took his place . Theground , in consequence of heavy rain , was in a very spongy condition , and the bowlers had all the best of the game. Thehighest of the three completed innings amounted to 72, and Bates ' first score of 24 wasthebest o neither side. In all 238 runs weretotalled from the bat for 37 wickets , and this gives an average of under 6 runs . T h e Australians wonby three wickets . Spofforth and Palmer bowled throughout
