Assistant Secretary , E. Browne, Pelham Street , Nottingham. T H Eclaim of Notts to the premiership of County last year was indisputable . O f the ten matches played , nine werewonand the tenth drawn in favour of the Nottinghamshire eleven . Theywere beaten by the Australians , after a singu- larly exciting match , by a bare majority of three wickets . This reverse , though , they would in all probability have avenged in the return , which , although they lost the valuable services of Alfred Shawafter the first day, was drawn, certainly in their favour . The performances of the Notts eleven of 1834 are indeed unique. No Countyhas been able to place in the field an eleven so strong at all points of the game, and their successes were thoroughly well -deserved . The only regret in connection with their cricket last season was the omission of the old fixtures with Lancashire , which have always been amongthe most popular events of the cricket season.
