Assistant Secretary and Collector , F. Reynolds , Stretford Villas , Stretford , Lancashire . LANCASHIRE, on the whole, did not show any very great improvement on the form of the previous season . W h e nthe eleven was really a representative one the cricket all round was up to the best standard of the county, and on some occasions , notably against Yorkshire at Sheffield , it was of the very highest order . The executive , though , cannot always , with such an amount of amateur talent , count on placing its best eleven in the field , and this fact must be taken into account in analysing the doings of the year. In the early part of the season the play was not quite up to the mark; but on the Southern tour in August some very fine cricket was shown, and Mr. Hornby, who, in the first fewmatches did not appear to be in run-getting form , hit with all his old free- d o mand success . Barlow's ill -success with the bat was compensated for by his excellent performance with the ball , and his bowling was one of the best features of the season's cricket . Mr. H. B. Steel's hitting wasof great service to the county, and he ought to be of even moreuse. Theabsence of the usual fixture with Notts was much to be regretted . The reason assigned for the refusal of the Notts Committeewas the determination of Lancashire to con- tinue playing unfair bowlers . R e s u l t sof M a t c h e s.
