Sec ., P. M. Thornton , United University Club , Suffolk Street , London, W . THOUGHthe summary of the season was not exceptionally brilliant for Middle- sex, few, if any, of the Counties could claim to havea muchbetter eleven in 1883. In both cases where they were defeated they were certainly not repre- sented by their full strength , and, taken on the whole, the figures of the Countywerecertainly not discreditable . The want of a fast bowler and a reliable wicket-keeper still prejudices the all -round cricket of the team ; but inbatting they were stronger than ever last year. Their performance against Gloucestershire , at Clifton , was one of the greatest events of a run-getting season , and the batting of the Hon. A. Lyttelton and Mr. I. D. Walker, in theAugustmatches, the best of a heavy scoring month. R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s. Matchesplayed, 10 ; W o n, 4 ; D r a w n, 4 ; Lost, 2. Opponents.
