THOUGHthe summaryof Kentish cricket can, by no argument, be considered as favourable , there was some sign of promise in the later matches . The commencementof the season was most unpropitious , but the play of the eleven in their two last engagements against Lancashire and Surrey, showed that , whenfully represented , Kent was even last year very difficult to beat . TheCounty missed the bowling of Mr. A. Penn during manyof the matches , and it is in this department that Kentstill sadly needs strength . In Mr. Christopherson it introduced a new fast bowler of great promise , but it is on professional talent that Counties mostly have to rely , and it is in this direction that the authorities should be most watchful. LordHarris has neverbatted in more brilliant form than he did last year, but Mr. Tylecote was not so successful ; and Mr. C. Wilson, w h oc a m eout withsuch success at the end of 1882, was only able to play at the very end of the season . R e s u l t sof M a t c h e s. Matches Played , 10 ; Won, 2 ; Drawn 2 ; Lost 6.
