Steel was the principal run-getter in the match, contributing 45 and 68. Oxford had the worst of the luck in losing the toss , but their cricket all round was very disappointing . The gamewas drawn. Marylebone was represented by an exceptionally weak eleven , and Derby- shire had the best of the drawn game, wanting at the finish only 45 to win, with six wickets to fall . George Hearne , in first innings of M.C.C. , went in second wicket d o w n, and carried out his bat for 71 out of a total of 178. Otherwise, with the exception of Mr. W. W. Evershed (28 and 58), there was nothing at all noteworthy in the batting . Derbyshire , 121 and 118 (for four wickets ) ; total , 239. M.C.C. andGround, 178 and 105 ; total , 283. Overs. Maidens. Marylebone had, despite a well hit 89 by O'Shaughnessy , to follow on in a minority of 107 ; but they were able to avert a defeat , as it happened. In all , 711 runs were scored for 29 wickets . M.C.C. had a strong eleven , butnot so Kent, whomissed the bowling of Mr. Christopherson . Marylebone wasmainly indebted to its later batsmen for its total of 295, Messrs . Whitfeld (74) and C. C. Clarke (63) contributing 137 of the number. Hearne played an excellent first innings of 55 for Kent, but despite the good cricket of H o n. Ivo Bligh and Mr. Tylecote , who made 70 while together in the second , the Marylebone bowling proved too good, and the County was beaten by nine wickets . M.C.C. and Ground, 295 and 64 (for one wicket ) ; total , 359 . Kent, 164 and 194 ; total , 358. (14) M.C.C. and Groundv. Yorkshire. Scarborough , August 30, 31, and September 1. The Yorkshire eleven did not include Harrison , Hunter, or Hall, and the Marylebone team was by no means as strong as usual . The scoring , though, was throughout above the average , and in all 775 runs were realised for 32 wickets . Ulyett while he was in scored 75 out of 112 in the first innings of Yorkshire , and Peel and Peate added 88. In the first innings of M.С.С. Messrs . Paravicini and Schultz put on 118, and Mr. Vernon, by brilliant batting at the close , too , 32 of the last 40 runs-16 from one over of Bates .
