ALFRED(Eton and Cambridge ). The best amateur wicket- keeper of the day, standing well up and rarely missing a chance ; a very dangerous batsman, having defence as well as hitting powers ; played brilliant cricket during the later matches of the County; England v. Australia , 1882 . LYTTELTON, Hon. E. (Eton and Cambridge). A fine free hitting bat, very dangerous when well set ; a good field near the wicket . O'BRIEN, T. C. Successful bat in second -class matches ; has considerable hitting power ; played once for the County. PEARSON, T.S. (Rugbyand Oxford). Not a stylish bat, but usually to be relied on for runs ; hardly so successful last year ; a fine field anywhere, but has no superior at point ; bowls slow round, and gets a wicket at times . ROBERTSON, J. A straight fast bowler with high delivery ; hardly so effective last year ; hits hard ; uncertain in the field . ROBSON, C. (Bruce Castle ). Bats in neat style , and hits freely , but was not in thebestpractice last year ; a sure field . THORNTON, C. I. (Eton and Cambridge). A very hard hitter , but not so certain as formerly ; is lazy in the field ; plays for Middlesex by residence , but only appeared in one match for the County. VERNON, G. F. (Rugby). An effective bat ,hitting with great vigour , and scoring very fast ; very fine out field ; with a sure pair of hands (Hon. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1882-83 ). WALKER, I. D. (Harrow). Afine batsman , hitting very clean on the off -side ; asplendid field , especially at mid-off ; has never played better cricket than last year ; a good captain and excellent judge of the game. W E B B E, A. J. (Harrowand Oxford). A batsman with excellent defence , and bats well, cutting very smartly ; a safe field . STUDD, G. B. (Eton and Cambridge ).
