A very keen cricketer ; good bat , with defence and no mean hitting power ; an excellent wicket -keeper , standing up pluckily to the fastest bowling ; hardly in his best form last year with the bat (H o n. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1883 ). WILSON, C. (Cambridge ) . A very useful all round cricketer ; fine bat ; play- ing very hard on the ball ; only able to play at the end of the season . WILSON, L. A useful all -round cricketer ; good and improving bat ; sharp field . K E M P, M. C. (Oxford), plays for Kent. L A N C A S H I R E . A P P L E B Y, A. Has finally retired from County contests ; still bowls and bats with success ; plays principally for his own club at Enfield . CROSFIELD, S. M. A fair bat and good field ; plays a little too stiff ; with practice maybecome a good cricketer . HAIGH, C. H. Did not play much for his County last season ; is a good bat and field ; drives well to the on-side. HORNBY, A. N. (Harrow). Wasnot so successful as in previous seasons ; is still one of our best batsmen , and at times punishes loose bowling heavily ; splendid field and sure catch ; is also an excellent and persevering Captain . LANCASHIRE, O. P. (Rossall and Cambridge ) . Did not represent his County last season ; bats in good form, and fields well . LEESE, E. (Manchester ). A good bat and fast run-getter on a hard ground ; goodfield . OPENSHAW, W. E. (Harrow). Aneat and careful batsman , and capital field at cover -point ; plays for HarrowWanderers. PORTER, E. H. A good bat, and at times makes good scores ; a fair change bowler, and good field . change bowler , and good field . ROPER, E. (Clifton ) . Avery good bat and field , and plays in good form ; fair ROYLE, REV. V. (Rossall and Oxford ). Was not able to give his valuable services to his County much during the past season ; still keeps up his batting reputation , and fields as brilliantly as ever at cover -point . PAYNE, J. H. A very fair bat, and drives well ; is also a good wicket -keeper and capital field . STEEL, A. G. (Marlborough and Cheltenham ). A first -class all -round cricketer , equally good at all points ; played but twice for his County last season . STEEL, D. Q. (Uppingham and Cambridge ) . A good batsman and field ; drives well to the on-side ; business prevents him playing muchfor the County. STEEL, H. B. Another addition to the County ranks ; an improving bat and fast run-getter ; hits very hard to the on-side ; rather slow in the field . T A Y L O R, F. (Clifton ). One of the best bats in the team ; plays the game thoroughly ; excels in driving ; an improving field , and bowls slow r o u n d-a r m. W O O D, R. A good all -round player , but business prevents him rendering any assistance to his County; bats and bowls left-handed, and excels in both. M I D D L E S E X . COTTRELL, C. E. (Harrow) . A useful bat, scoring freely at times ; bowls fast round, at times effectively ; plays little for the County now. FORD, A. F. J. (Repton and Cambridge ). A very useful all -round player ;
