Jones (5): improving bat, style very cramped at present ; always cool ; very fair long-stop . R. E. Leigh (4): the most promising bat the school has seen for some time, plays in excellent style , andought in a few years to become a first -rate bat. J. E. Jones (3) : got his colours towards the end of term; a very useful all-round player . A. Hill (3) : waswell worth his place in the eleven for his fielding at long -leg and mid-off . E. H. Sankey : hadthe highest batting average ever obtained bya memberof the team; abrilliant batsman,having fine defence combined with great punish- ing power; a most useful medium-pace bowler; has bowled with remarkable success throughout the season. W. H. Hill : has madea most energetic secretary ; a very steady andsafe bat, with strong defence,his cutting andoff-driving being especially noticeable ; avery good field anywhere, particularly at point ; asure catch . H. Davis : avery promis- ing bat, playing in good form and with plenty of force ; cuts well; played somegood innings ; winner of the average bat; good change bowler ; moderate field . H. M. Dexter : afair batwith good style and plenty of hitting power; good medium-pace bowler with high delivery ; fair field whenhe does not get a catch . J. H. Nichol : batted in very good style , notwithstanding his diminutive stature , andpromises well ; has maderuns off good bowling; agood change bowler, andan excellent field at mid-off . L. A. C. Parish : a n uncertain, but whenonce settled down, is an effective and dangerous bat, getting runs rapidly ; agood judge of a catch in the long -field , and throws in well . E. K. Collins ; a fair bat,but cannot get rid of a slight tendency to play round the ball ; a splendid field ; anerratic fast bowler. F. G. Hudgell : a fast underhand bowler with plenty of spin , at times verydifficult ; amoderate bat,buthits well to leg ; a good field . F. H. Usher : avery fair bat,playing in neat style ; a safe field with a good return , and a sure catch ; a good changebowler. A. Ball : amoderate bat in amatch,butrather too fond of hitting ; must takemorepains in practice if he is to become good; a good field . A. P. D. Brace : a splendid long-stop , scarcely ever allowing a bye; as a bat has manythings to learn ; is yerystiff and too afraid of hitting .
