Barclay : has kept wicket throughout the season ; has not come off as a bat . H. E. Bennett : a good bat, drives well , butis weakonthe leg side ; bowls at times with success . W. T. H. Elsley :fine field at point; cankeep wicket ; uncertain bat. J. O. Hunt: a useful m a nto go in first , always staying in, but slow in getting runs ; good change bowler. S. B. McBeath : an effective bat, makinggood use of his height and reach; obtained top average ; good fast bowler . J. R. Macintyre : a left -handbat, has made some good scores , but too much inclined to slog; poor field . J. Marcham: very goodbat, cuts well; very effective fast underhand bowler. K. Martin : a fair bat, but at times rash ; fine long-field ; very fast but erratic bowler. C. T. Oldham : good long -stop ; can bowl; weak bat. S. Taplin : an excellent long-stop , and agood serviceable bat, though not so successful as last year. S. H. Bradford : one of the best bowlers there has been at the school ; he and R. A. W. Barfoot bowled downa strong eleven of the Gentlemen of NorthDevonfor 46 runs ; plays in beautiful style , and often madegood scores . R. M. Latham : has improved a good deal in batting during the last yearor two; hits hard, andsometimesm a d ea large score ; oftendid great execution with underhandslows . W..J. Keech : maderuns fast if the bowling was not very good; obtained the average bat ; a good change bowler. T. R. Potbury : a steady and useful bat, and serviceable to the elevenin various ways. R. A. W . Barfoot: a very goodbowler, and of great useto the eleven in that capacity . A. A. Little played steadily , and several times obtained a fair score , though hedid not makeso manyruns as last season . F. W. Yates and W. G. Allen : fair players all round. A. Watts : a very useful field . EastbourneCollege.-Matches played , 11 ; won, 5 ; drawn , 2 ; lost 4.-THE ELEVENIN 1883.-T. Ormerod (Captain) : has again filled the post of captain with thorough success ; unexpectedly proved of immenseservice with the bat, with anaverage of 19.7; fallen off somewhatin the bowling department, but, nevertheless , mostuseful ; amagnificent and sure field . E. P. Griffin : greatly fallen off in batting , but, on the other hand, a destruc- tive bowler and a fine deep field . T. P. Hilder : shownvast improvement in every point of thegame; a very careful andpretty bat. C. W. Taylor : uncertain bat, butvery good in thebowling line , although inclined to pitch his balls short . A. J. McConnell : gave great promise as wicket-keeper early in the season , but was only able to render service in two matches. W. K. Parbury : a useful bat, and sure deep field . E. O. Sillem : a capital field atpoint, but in the batting line has not come off , being muchtoo inclined to hit. E. R. Hardman: a very neat field , and a good slow bowler, with a peculiar action ; the most promising bat in the eleven . H. Partridge : hits well on the leg ; a very moderate field . F.Hawks: proved most useful in batting andbowling ; rather an awkwardfield . C.
