Marriott (Captain ) : some- times hit hard ; bowled a little . *F. W. Burbury : a good bat, with a good cut and drive ; a little stiff in forward play and often fails in defence from turning his head away; a wild fast bowler, might bowl lobs with practice ; a first -class field . W. V. Thomas (Captain for 1884) : a steady bat, with a stiff style ; unsafe as a hitter from bad timing of the ball ; a fair bowler, and good catch ; but inactive in the field . *G. Kemp: is likely to become a first -class bat, excellent at every point ; slow in the field ; bowls curious but uncertain slows . R. T. Wilson : a good steady bowler, with a puzzling break ; a determined bat , playing hard and straight , with rather an awkward style ; a good field . J. W. Clarke : a taking bat, with rather more style than performance ; a quick , but uncertain field ; will be able to play some day, if he learns to stand still and hit the ball . T. C. Wynne: an uncertain left -hand bowler, difficult on his day; as a bat, has no back play, and needs energy and a better sight of the ball ; drives well ; a fair field . * W. B. Barchard : pursues the art of run-getting rather after his own fancy ; has not improved as might have been hoped. H. P. Barchard : a pretty and improving bat ; fair field . C. H. Deeley : a showy bat with a good forward stroke , but needs variety ; a goodcatch , but slow in the field ; should practice bowling . P. C. Ash : a prom- ising bat and wicket-keeper , but has muchto learn . U P P I N G H A M S C H O O L . Captain , L. Orford . R e s u l t sof M a t c h e s.
