R U G B YELEVENIN 1883 .-*H. H. Castens : at times a very brilliant bat, but apt to get nervous ; rather fell off at the wickets this year ; has made an admirable and energetic Captain. *E. E. Wigan : a very powerful bat, with capital defence ; a very strong cut- his best point ; sound field anywhere. *A. A .Watson : an exceedingly pretty bat ; slow run-getter , but, whenwell set , hard to get rid of ; played excellently at Lord's this year ; smart field at times . *F. Gillson : fell off very much as a bowler ; can sometimes punish weak bowling ; good field in slips . S. N. Harrison : uncertain at beginning of season,butmadeup for it by a great innings at Lord's ; hard hitter with fair defence ; useful change bowler ; captain for next year. P. Coles : a very sound , patient bat ; can always be relied on for runs , but does not punish loose bowling sufficiently ; weak stroke on leg side ; very sure catch . H. E. Cobb : a powerful bat at times , with good on drive ; played a capital innings at Lord's ; smart point . G. Bowden-Smith : a very sure field , and safe catch far out ; fair bat. G. Bradby: capital field at cover -point ; fell off in batting towards the endof the year ; fair change bowler . *G. Harper : very fair medium bowler on awicket that suits him; poor bat ; fair field .
