Sewell : a very pretty bat, thoughhe utterly failed to score at the close of the season ; ought to makea good batfor next years ' eleven ; a poor field . B. L. Leesmith ; a good bat, though hardly reliable at present ; cuts brilliantly , but is somewhat weak on the leg- side ; an excellent field at long-leg . *L. M. Owen : thoroughly earned his place in the eleven byhis exceptionally fine fielding ; very fast , and picks up clean ; a peculiar bat. J. Blackwall ; a most promising young player ; has played some excellent innings , and has been of the greatest service to the team ; a fair change bowler; weak in the field . H. Lockhart ; has proved a very effective slow bowler ; gets a lot of work on his balls , but is not certain of his pitch ; pays great attention to coaching , and has improved his batting wonderfully . C. E. Tunnicliffe ; a good fast bowler on adead wicket ; gets runs against slow bowling ; anexcellent field . J. T. T.
