M A R L B O R O U G HELEVENIN 1883.-*F. E. Rowe played several good innings , was hardly as safe a last year ; hits very hard, but his tendency to "pull" lost himhis wicket more than once : safe catch and fair field at point ; handled his team with much judgment . *E. H. Buckland : a very good and successful slow bowler , breaking chiefly from the off ; a pretty and run-getting bat, and a quick field especially to his own bowling . *W. A. Rose : a free and pretty bat with sound defence and good hitting powers ; good field in the country, andable to bowl as a change . F. G. Padwick: has much improved in batting since last year , adding stronger defence to his hitting powers ; very fine field , covering the ground very quickly . Captain for 1884. *F. D. Quinton : a very good bat, muchimproved since last year , especially in hitting powers ; a quick and effective field at mid-off . H. T. Keeling : a very steady bat, but hardly makes sufficient use of his strength for hitting ; a fast and at times effective
