Legge : has been a most energetic andsuccessful Captain ; is a brilliant field with quick return , and a sure catch ; bats steadily , but has been somewhat unfortunate . *H. G. M. Amos : has not answered the expectations formed from his batting last year ; is too eager to makeruns before well set ; is an excellent wicket -keeper . R.P. Spurway (Capt. for 1884) : his bowling has been good and straight as ever ; bats in good style , buthas not been fortunate . R. H. D. Smithson : has bowled uniformly well throughout the season ; his action is now free from any suspicion of unfairness ; muchimproved as a bat ; his play is careful and strong . E. K. H. D'Aeth : the best bat in the eleven ; is a powerful hitter all round, but is particularly brilliant on the off- side ; often destructive as a bowler, being very quick off the pitch . H. S. Arkwright : a good bat on a fast wicket ; plays forward too muchon a slow one ; is a good change bowler, and energetic field . *J. D. W. Davy : is a strong bat, but is too eager to makeruns quickly , and is rather wanting in defence ; quick in the field . J. B Barton : a careful bat, and fair change bowler. *C. E. Brownrigg : promises to be a strong bat, rather rough at present ; is a quick rungetter , with good defence ; apt to run over the ball in the field . J. D. F. Campbell : is a fine field at cover -point ; often difficult as a bowler ; promises well,but is uncertain as a bat . G. H. G.
