C H E L T E N H A MELEVENIN 1883 .-*L. H. Taylor : has the making of a good cricketer ; bats in good style , has strong defence , playing well , and drives hard ; good and safe wicket -keeper ; should show more energy in the game. *А. B. Heath : a neat bat, playing remarkably well at times , especially excels in cutting and leg -hitting ; wants moreconfidence and should watch the ball more ; good field , but not always to be trusted with a catch ; bowls fast with occasional success . *D. C. Lee : fell off lamentably this season ; gave promise of becoming auseful steady bat , but began with a run of bad luck and entirely lost confidence bothinbatting and fielding . *H. A. Hornby : a useful bowler with good break back, fastish as a rule , and varies his pace well , but is rather uncertain in length ; a free bat with a good straight drive ; was unable to play in most of the matches . A. Robinson : left-hand bat ; a useful manto go in first , having a very strong de- fence and generally staying sometime at the wickets ; occasionally hits very hard to the off , but, as a rule , plays in cramped style ; not a good field . E. M. Blair : a promising cricketer , at present greatly wanting in confidence ; with experience ought to make a very useful bat, being painstaking and patient ,watching the ball well , and capable of hitting ; has lately taken to bowling slow round with con- siderable leg break , which may prove useful next season . *R. E. Heaven : a steady bat, with good defence , but little power to hit , cuts well at times ; straight medium-paced bowler without much command of length , apt to be expensive ; a fair field . *E. D. Edmondson : the bowler of the eleven ; slow left hand with fair break and head work ; always plays up well ; some of his performances this season were very good ; a good field at short slip . V. Ferguson : a useful fast bowler with high action ; a hard -hitting bat with plenty of confidence and not muchdefence ; played some most valuable innings when runs were much wanted ; a safe field and throws in well . G. Cripps : painstaking and steady bat with good off -drive , but without much style ; fair field . A. B. Champain : good field , moderate bat , can hit , but has little defence . C. E. Pierson : an improving bat, played well at times , especially to fast bowling . *G. E. Barnes : was unable to play inmorethan one or two matches , or wouldhave been a most useful member ofthe eleven , being a good bowler and field . C L I F T O N C O L L E G E . Captain for 1883 , J.
