Gellibrand (Capt.) : went off sadly in batting , has nowno defence at all ; as a slow bowler he has at times shown verygood form and, if he will only keep to one style , we hope to see him do a great deal for us next year. G. C. Hare : an ugly bat, but has strong defence , andhas consequently scored far more runs than any other memberof the eleven ; always plays up well , and is a very fair field . G. P. Shrewsbury : plays in pretty style ,buthas no defence , and was altogether very disappointing ; a smart field . E. J. Bidwell : has improved greatly as a bat ; hits extremely well , and should be very valuable to the eleven next year . H. W. Paine : is an unsafe bat, but has comeongreatly with the ball , finishing with the best bowling average . J. O. Travers : at the beginning of the season showed considerable promise as a bowler, but unfortunately went off greatly ; is a lucky slogger , but has a capital eye, and withanycare and patience might become a dangerous batsman. V. S. Menzies : bats in good form, and next year , with more height and strength , wehope to see himmakemanyruns . H. W. Haig a greatly improved bat, always playing with great care and patience ; we once thought hima good point . F. B. Hearn : amost annoying failure as a bat, plays in good style , but seems to have no defence ; we haveseen livelier fields . H. J. M. Climenson : might have had a capital defence , but always wanted to hit , and hardly ever came off ; wants pluck and energy . T
