Studd (Eton) : one of the best all round players in England; very steady and reliable with the bat ; an excellent slow round-armbowler, and a first -rate field and sure catch . Hon.M. B. Hawke(Eton) : a useful , though uncertain bat : owing to an injury to his kneeearly in the season , was not seen to so muchadvantage as in the previous season . J.E. K.Studd (Eton ) : fine bat on agood wicket , rather too fond of playing forward : magnificent out-field , and a most painstaking cricketer . P. J. de Paravicini (Eton) : improved very muchas a bat this season ; not very suc- cessful as a bowler ; capital field , and a most cheerful companion in a long day's fielding . C. A. Smith (Charterhouse ) : bowled very well for Cambridge long Cambridge this year, and very useful in this department. W. N. Roe (Private ) : hard- workingcricketer , though not come up to the form expected from him as a boy; fair bowler, but a little nervous as a bat. P. J. Henery (Harrow) : most determined and resolute hitter ; capital field , and sometimes useful as bowler , slow round. C. W. Wright (Charterhouse ) : a good wicket-keeper ; played a magnificent innings of 102 against Oxford ; but was never seen to muchadvan- tage afterwards . Hon. J. Mansfield (Winchester ) : capital bat , combining great steadiness with considerable powers of hitting ; good field at point ; did not play much after the Varsity match. J. A. Turner (Uppingham) : fair slow round-armbowler ; capital field anywhere ; not very successful as a bat , being rather nervous at starting . H. G.
