E V E R Y E A Rsees an increase in the number of matches played under the management of the Marylebone Club. The season of 1881 showed that 117 fixtures had been satisfactorily carried out, and this was an advance of 22 on any previous card. The summary of 1882 though points to the decision of as m a n yas 123 engagements of the Marylebone Club and Ground, irrespective of the twelve important matches played under the auspices of M.C.C. Of these 123 as manyas 47 were won, 53 drawn, and 23 lost . With the exception of its dual defeat by the Universities in the out matches in May, when its eleven was utterly unworthy of the Club reputation , the Marylebone Club was only beaten three times in first class matches. Notts and Yorkshire alone of the leading Counties defeated M.C.C. and Ground, and the former only by a wicket . H a d time allowed the Club would in all probability have beaten the Australians , and the eleven it placed in the field on this occasion was sufficient to show how thoroughly the M.C.C. is representative of the best Amateur Cricket in the Country. The satisfactory completion of such an elaborate programme is sufficient evidence of the zeal withwhichthe executive of the MaryleboneClub fulfils its mission , the encouragement and extension of good cricket .
