N o w-a-days long-stop is usually dispensed with, but he should not be re- movedunless bowling is very straight and wicket-keeping very sure . In this case it wouldbe advisable to place mid-off (No. 8) further back, and place No. 9 at long-stop . Witha good on-hitter the on-side must be strengthened by the removalof No. 12 to a position onthe on-side between10 and11.
