Hockliffe (Captain 1882,) (18) : has proved a very successful and energetic captain ; is the prettiest bat in the team, and a fair bowler. B. S. Carey (20) : a very safe bat ; has scored the highest average for the third year in succession ; a fair wicket-keeper and some- times bowls well . H. R. Orr (15) : a very pretty bat , with good forward play ; is very quick in the field , and a good catch . G. G. Skipwith (18) : has greatly improved as a bat ; a good cover -point ,but not quite sharp enough ; should bea very useful man next year . G. Porter (6) : has been unlucky as a bat ; a good fast bowler and safe field . H. T. Eve (11) : a plucky and useful bat ; a goodbowler with a break from leg ; is an excellent field . F. W. Jay (5) : is not m u c hgood as a bat ; must improve his defence ; is a goodpoint . W. P. Braith- waite (12 ) : a fair bat , with a pretty style ; wants more strength ; must learn to play slow -bowling and move more quickly in the field . C. Beville (5) : ought to makea good bat ; a very good field ; can bowl a little . N. Hadow(2) : not muchgood as a bat ; must get a better defence ; perhaps the best field in the team. B. Trydell (4) : has played for the team in most matches, but has not received his colours ; is not much good as a bat, and is far too slow in the field . B I R K E N H E A D S C H O O L . T H EELEVENIN 1882.-P. Dobell (40) : a splendid bat, as his average proves ; has played some grand innings ; can bowl at a pinch ; a brilliant field ; hascaptained the eleven with great success . Rev. W. J. Willan (8) : hits very hard, and is an energetic field . W. P. Evans (11) : a fair bat, but apt to get his legs in front of his wickets ; at times successful as a slow bowler . W.Fisher (6) : a steady bat, with a good " cut ;" bowls fast underhand with some success ; a good field at point . W. H. Brown (10) : has improved in batting , especially on the off; bowls well , but soon tires ; slow in the field . H. M. Beansire (9) : a good bat, but prefers a slow ball to a fast one ; a very good field , with a sure pair of hands; Captain for 1883. E. R. Beansire (7) : a very good medium-paced left- handbowler, and has surpassed all our expectations of him; a promising bat, and neat field . C. W. McAndrew (6) : promised well at the beginning of the season as a bat, but had bad luck ; good field at slip or short -leg . J. Govan (15) : keeps wickets fairly ; tame bat whenfirst going in, but hits well whenset. F. B. Pownall(5) : a very good long-stop ; fair bat ; ought to be useful to the team next year . E. Everard (2) ; a very good field at long -leg and cover -point , to whichheoweshis place in the team; can hit whenhe likes . C I T YO F L O N D O NC O L L E G E .
