T H EWINCHESTERELEVENOF 1882. -*H. G. Ruggles -Brise : a fair bat, and apainstaking cricketer generally ; to his energy , as Captain , the eleven owe muchof their success during the season . A. R. Cobb (Captain for 1883) : im- proved considerably during the season , and played several excellent innings ; a useful wicket -keeper. G. W. Ricketts : ought to makea good bowler ; will give good account of himself next year as a bat ; a fair field . *H. G. Saunders- Davies : did not on the whole comeupto the expectation which had been formed of himas a bat, though he played some good innings ; agood field and safe catch, especially in the deep field . B. E. Nicholls : a capital school bowler, as his analysis shows, being straight and of a good length ; fields his ownbowling excellently , and at times madesome brilliant catches at short -slip ; has im- proved in his batting . F. M. Ingram : ought to makea fair bat next year ; wants morevigour and dash in his play ; a fair field . J. M. F. Fuller : a use- ful manin the eleven ,having no special excellence in any one department ,but being fairly good all round , and having quite justified his place . E. B. Hills : amoderate field and bat ; he ought, with practice , to improve his batting con- siderably next year. J. M. Swayne: must practice his batting , and learn to get in front of the ball in fielding it ; proved himself a very useful bowler, and ought to be quite good next year. *W. H. Edgar: promises to become a good bat; fields well at point. *F. W. Montagu: a hard hitter with good eye, but little or nodefence ; was too anxious to score quickly ; a moderate fast bowler, and fair field . P. Humphry: a moderate field , andwith practise will makea goodbat; wants to be more alive .
