T. Arnall : fair bat, generally making runs ; invaluable to his school as a bowler ; one of the most energetic of Cap- tains w ehave had. *E. Bowden-Smith : not improved as muchas was expected ; fair bat, cutting well ; good field . H. H. Castens : keeps wicket well, some- times brilliantly ; a good and improving bat, but fails to do himself justice owing to nervousness ; Captain for 1883. E. E. Wigan: a very steady bat, with free style , playing backwell ; good field . *F. R. Simpson : good bat with good defence; moderate field . *R. L. Richardson : fell off as a bat considerably ; bowling very good at times ; good field , but appears to be too nervous . F. Gillson : began bybowling well, but seems to have overbowled himself towards the end of the season ; moderate bat ; poor field . A. S. Winterbotham : our best bat, with dashing style ; proved himself a good bowler, being somewhat deadly on a slow wicket ; should practise fielding . A. W. Watson : moderate bat, with good defence ; good field . *A. E. Thompson : a very poor bat, but fields well. S. N. Harrison : put in for his bowling , which is very good for a few overs ; moderate bat. *J. K.
