Morice (Capt.) : a very patient and pains- taking bat , with a powerful defence , but is too apt to let loose bowling go unpunished . Is an excellent judge of a run. Hasgreatly improved this year in the bowling department , being very straight and getting morerise into his balls than he used to. A nexcellent field at short -slip , and a good hand at taking sharp catches . *O. T. Pardoe, whenhe does not get impatient , is a first -rate bat, combining a good defence with considerable hitting powers . Hits very well to leg. Batted rather carelessly in the middle of the term, but in the last two or three matches has played several first -class innings . Is a smart field with a quick return . *H. C. Saville : a good fast bowler , and generally very straight , buthas scarcely proved so dangerous as might have been expected fromhis last year's form. Hasdeveloped into a fair bat, having improved both in style and defence . A good field and safe catch . † *K. S. Barker has bowled with great effect this year, and on several occasions his left -hand has proved very destruc- tive. Hasan easy delivery , and knows howto vary the pitch and pace of his balls . Sometimes bats well and disappoints his opponents by running up a score at the close of the innings . *A. C. Bamford: a neat and steady bat who canbe generally depended upon to get runs. Drives to the off and cuts very well. Is a useful change bowler, generally very straight . Thoroughly reliable in the field . F. Yardley : a good bat but somewhat uncertain till he has survived two or three overs. Playedbetter at the beginningof the season than he has lately . Hasa good defence and hits hard, but has a tendency to hit balls up too much. Fields capitally at cover point . *F. H. Jagger : a useful left- handedbat. Hits freely and clean . His style is perhaps more taking than that of any other memberof the Eleven. A safe catch in the deep field . *H. P. Hansell has greatly improved in batting lately . Can generally be depended on to makeruns . H a sa patient defence , hits to leg , and plays forward well . H. Harding : a pretty bat, though somewhat disappointing . Has evidently plenty of cricket in him, but sometimes does not do himself justice owing to nervousness . Played some good innings in the earlier part of the season . Oughtto develop into a good bat next year. Has a good idea of bowling slow round. A n excellent point . G. A. Young hits very hard and vigorously in all directions , and also has nowa very fair defence . Didnot play for the Eleven till late in season, but has done good service in several matches . A useful field . J. H. Coplestone plays in good style , and like a cricketer , but lacks power . Ought to †TheAverageBall .
