Lucas : bats in good style , but was not so successful last season as the preceding one ; should practise fielding ; Captain for 1883. J. F. Jardine : a fast bowler, and under favourable circumstances often deadly ; as a batsman, unique . J. Hargreaves : persevering with the bat and in the field ; did his side good service latterly . A. C. Richards : a steady and useful slow bowler and good short slip ; capable of much improvement as a batsman. Hon. C. M. Knatchbull Hugessen : useful in the field and dangerous as a hitter ; should learn to abandon a flourish , often fatal ; bowls lobs . R. H. Pemberton : a good batsman, likely to bebetter ; fair field . A. H. Studd : an energetic and painstaking cricketer : his batting is good in style , to which perhaps he pays too much attention . F.
