Gray bowled one wide. CLIFTON ELEVEN.-W. Evershed (captain ) is a good bat, hitting and playing- back very hard , and has improved in defence ; he lost his commandof the ball at the beginning of the season , but bowled well on several occasions later on; a. good field ; wonthe fielding prize . J. H. Brain promised very well in batting atthe beginning of the season , but fell off and disappointed expectation ; a very good field and bowls as a change . K. J. Key is a good and plucky bat ; hits very finely on hard ground , and promises to be first -rate , if he will only cure himself of one or two faults . His bowling is still deficient in pitch , and has. hardly improved as much as was expected ; an excellent field ; wonthe batting andbowling averages . H.B. Powell bowls slower than he did , and with more break , but hardly so good a length : has improved in batting ; still hardly up to themarkin the field . M. A. Hartnell beganthe season well, butdid not come.
