C H E L T E N H A MELEVENIN 1882 .-*C. E. Greenway : proved a thoroughly able captain , and filled his post with great success ; plays in nice style , and frequently scored largely , his drives being especially very powerful ; a very safe andquick field at point , being equally at homein the long field . *H. V. Page: a steady and reliable bat, generally to be relied on for runs ; a mediumbowler of great promise , varying his pace and pitch with excellent judgment. His bowling at Clifton proved very destructive , taking 7 wickets at a cost of less than 1 run apiece ; can field anywhere. D. T. M. Jones : played several masterly innings during the season , and was always at homewith any slow bowling ; bowled slow round armwith great success on a sticky wicket ; a sure field . *F. Westcott : at the commencementof the season shewed promise as a batsman, but fell off latterly ; fair change bowler. *G. Clowes : a hard and determined hitter with great punishing power; apt to be slow in the field ; was unable to play in the last three matches through illness . L. H. E. Taylor : could , with pains, becomea first -rate bat ; wonhis place in the Eleven by his consistently good wicket- keeping, rarely missing a chance . *F. Grant ; a neat and effective bat, his cutting being especially brilliant ; a never-failing field at cover-point . А. В. Heath: a steady bat, playing in pretty form; wonthe fielding prize . L.H. Humphreys: possesses great staying powers ; is a useful m a nto go in first ; fair field ; can take wicket . F. G. Andrews : did notplay for the Eleven until late in the season ; a hard andclean hitter , but rather too fond of a pull ; as a field lacks throwing powers. *N. C. Chamberlain : at his best, but an indifferent bat ; a moderate field , whenhe does not get a catch ; a very fast round arm bowler, but metwith small success . D. C. Lee: got his colours as twelfth man a steady bat, likely to be of great service to the Eleven next year .
