Nelson : a useful bat, might be better if he had more patience ; an active field and effective bowler ; winner of average ball ; as captain he contributed a great deal to the suc- cess of the eleven . F. Casswell : a trustworthy bat, who has improved greatly ; is often effective as a bowler and as a field . C. F. Dobbie : as a bowler shows want of practice , and as a bat , want of care and patience ; fields and catches well at a distance from the wicket . A. A. Heyman : an uncertain bat , though he might be verygood if he would hit straight ; very fair field . A. E. Barton : a very good. bat; fair bowler , and can field creditably when he puts two hands to the ball ; winner of average bat , and captain for 1883. L. C. Twyford : as a bat does not playhard enough ; might field well with more dash . T. Bigge : a good useful bat ; moderate field . C. Tufnell : careful bat, plays too stiffly and not straight enough ; a fair field . J. Henegan : promises to bat effectively when he has subdued. unnecessary flourishes ; uncertain field .
