(1) Notts v. Yorkshire. Nottingham , July 18, 19, and 20 . Yorkshire was well represented , but Notts had not its full strength with ArthurShrewsbury away. Notts hadthe first use of a good wicket , but Peate's bowling puzzled them, and the Yorkshiremen hada lead of 87 runs on the first innings . The latter ought to have been well worth the total of 155 required when they went in a second time. Morley, though, bowled so well that no one was able to get twenty runs, and their chances were still further lessenedby_two , injudicious cases of run out. Selby (31 and 66) was highest scorer for Notts, Ulyett (46 and 14) for Yorkshire . Notts wonby 90 runs . Notts, 104 and 241, total , 345. Yorkshire , 191 and 64, total , 255 . Lucas was away, Surrey madea very fair show. Therun-getting was not high on either side , and Barnes (56 and 48) of Notts was the only batsman to makeanything of a score each time . Thehighest of the three completed innings was 166, and the aggregate of the matchwas 578 for thirty- six wickets , or an average of just over sixteen runs . Jones bowled exceedingly well for Surrey , but Notts had the advantage , and wonby four wickets . Notts, 149 and 141 (six wickets ), total , 290. Surrey, 122 and 166, total , 288.
