Assistant Secretary , E. Browne, Thurland Steeet , Nottingham. N O T T Scould fairly claim to have an equal right with Lancashire to the highest honours of the county season . Theyhad bad luck at times in more ways thanone, and this m a d etheir record the more meritorious. Owingto an injury to his foot Morley was not quite himself , and in fact , except at the verycommencementof the season , he was never seen at his best . Shrewsbury too wasunable to play in several of the later matches and his batting was much missed. Barnes has rarely played better cricket and despite a severe illness during the winter , was again really at the head of the batting averages . Scotton's batting showed a great improvement, but in some respects the play was disappointing , and Selby, Butler and Gunnwere not in their best form. Alfred Shaw, Morley and Flowers between them took 171 out of 203 wickets . The former at times was as successful as ever, and Flowers was of great use though he fell off rather towards the end of the season . Outof twelve matches Nottswon8, and lost 1.
