DERBYSHIRE, in spite of the praiseworthy energy of its efforts , had another very unsuccessful season . Thematch-list was this year reduced to six fixtures , con- sisting of home-and-homeengagements with Lancashire , Yorkshire , and Sussex . O fthe six matches five werelost ; the only win was that in the second encounter with Sussex . Mycroft bowled very successfully , but otherwise the cricket all round was only moderate , and the batting particularly disappointing . Mr. R. P. Smith and Platts showed a great deterioration ; though Mr. L. C. Docker hit freely against Sussex , he was evidently not in the best of practice . Foster hit well in the closing match of the season , but he was uncertain ; generally , the eleven were unreliable . Acolt named Cropper made a promising debut . H eproved himself useful both with bat and ball, and bids fair to be an acquisi- tion to the eleven . Chatterton , too , seems likely to train on into a good bat . Disney's wicket -keeping was very good throughout the season . H eis , beyond adoubt , the most promising professional of the day in this department . R e s u l t sof M a t c h e s.
