G. Grace a life in the very first over , and as with his brother , E. M. , the Gloucestershire Captain , put on 104 for the first wicket , the mistake was a costly one. Mr. Evans, the Oxford bowler, did not arrive till 163 runs had been got, or Somersetshire might have been able to get rid of their opponents for less than 344. Thanks to Messrs . H. F. Fox (89) and Sainsbury (56), Somersetshire were very near saving the innings , but in their second attempt Woof's bowling proved a little too muchfor them, and Gloucester- shire wonby ten wickets . Gloucestershire , 344 and 7 (no wickets down) ; total , 351. Somersetshire , 233 and 117 ; total , 350. G l o u c e s t e r s h i r ev. S o m e r s e t s h i r e . Cheltenham, Аид. 18, 19, 1881. Somersetshire was not represented at its best with Messrs. Evansand H. F. Fox away, but it madea good fight , and some very good cricket w a ss h o w n. Somersetshirewere able to claim a lead of fourteen runso n the first innings , but as in the previous match , they fell off altogether whenthey went in a second time, and no one but Mr. Massey offered any resistance to the bowling of Mr. W. G. Grace and Midwinter. The two Graces did some smart hitting for Gloucestershire to win the match. Fifty runs were madein twenty minutes, and the 101 wantedwere got in sixty -five minutes for the loss of three batsmen. Somersetshire were thus beaten by seven wickets . Gloucestershire , 184 and 102 (three wickets down) ; total , 286. Somersetshire , 198 and 86 ; total , 284 .
