(10) Rugbyv Marlborough . Lord's , July 27, 28, 1881 . A n exciting match to the very last . Marlborough were expected to makea good fight , and there was very little to choose between the two schools . Until a very late period of the gameeverything was in favour of the Marlburians , but somevery free hitting by Cave (79) and Cohen (69 ), w h o put on 133 runs while together , completely changed the aspect of affairs , and this stand enabled Rugby to pull through with the bare majority of two wickets . Turner (56 and 64), the Marlborough Captain, hit well , and in each innings he was the highest scorer . Thefielding on bothsides was excellent , even for a school match. Rugby, 139 and 219 (eight wickets down) ; total , 358. Marlborough , 179 and 177 ; total , 356 . M a h o n(Marlborough) O v e r s. M a i d e n s , 2 3 - 1 8 R u n s. W i c k e t s. 3 9 8
