Lord's, July 7 & 8, 1881. The Owingto the WindsorReviewon July 9, this matchhad to be advanced a dayin the week, taking place on Thursdayand Friday instead of Friday and Saturday as usual . Eton, despite their victory over Winchester , were never fancied , and the prevailing opinion that they were a weaker eleven than any the school had turned out for some years was fully justified . groundwas a little slow from a severe thunderstorm two days before , but it was never difficult at any period of the game. There was little in the first innings of either side at all worthy of note . The Eton batting was about as poor as has been seen in this matchfor a long time ; and though the Harrowbowling was on the whole better , with certainly more change in it than in that of the opposition , there was certainly nothing deadly enough in it to count for the feeble exhibition of most of the Eton batsmen. Bainbridge made22 in fair if not brilliant style , but not one of the other ten could get into double figures . The second innings of Harrowwas only remarkable for the stand madeby Hadowand Bolitho , andas manyas 122 runs were addedwhile they were together . H a d o wonly gave one chance in his 94, when he had got 90, and his hitting was the cleanest that this match has shown for some years . Lucas and Richards played very steadily and pluckily after the best Eton wickets had fallen ; and the latter , a very small boy, showed nerve and judgment likely to serve his school good stead in the future . Paravicini , the Eton Captain , altogether failed to comeup to the expectations formed from his batting against Harrowin 1880. I nthe second innings , whenhe did get runs , he was a little too anxious to score ; but his fielding throughout was very good , and he was undoubtedly the best bowler in the two elevens ,
