Joint Stock Banks at Oval , 170. O B I T U A R Y O FT H E E A R . BATHURST, SIR FREDERICK HUTCHINSON-HARVEY(Hampshire ).--Died Oct. 29, 1881 ; Born June 30, 1807. W a seducated at Winchester. Thirty years ago one of the first cricketers of the day. Played for the Gentlemen against the Players for 21 years , from 1834 to 1854 inclusive , andin 1853 bowled with Mr. Kempson throughout the match without being changed , taking eleven wickets for 50 runs. President of the Marylebone Club in 1857. In bowling, he took a very long run up to the wicket , and, though he threw his whole weight into the ball , he could keep on bowling all day. His delivery was rather low, but he was very straight , and kept a length that the batsmencould not easily force forward . Was also a good active field , and shone most in the out play , as his batting , whensuccessful , was merely hard hitting ,the result of a good eye. CHATTERTON, GEORGE (Yorkshire ) .-Died Oct. 1, 1881 ; Born Sept. 23, 1821. W a sone of the All Englandas well as of the United Eleven, and for several years was engaged as a ground bowler at Lord's . A powerful hitter and a very good wicket-keeper, also bowled slow under-handat times w i t hsuccess. EARP, THOMAS.-DiedApril 29, 1881. W a sfor several years Captain of the Barking Club, and had played morethan once for Essex. H e was only twenty-seven years old. FILLERY, RICHARD.-Died Nov. 21, 1881 ; Born Feb. 4, 1842. A few years ago a prominent memberof the Sussex Eleven. Bowled medium- pace round-arm for a season or two with great success , and scored well at times , hitting freely when set ; also a good field at point . FITZGERALD, ROBERTALLAN.-- Died Oct. 28, 1881 ; Born Oct. 1, 1834. Educated at Harrowand Cambridge. A few years ago very actively and prominently identified with the game. On May 6, 1863 , became Honorary Secretary of the Marylebone Club in succession to Mr. Alfred Baillie , and a few years later was appointed Paid Secretary of the Club, to whose present prosperity he contributed very greatly by his popularity and unceasing energy . Resigned the Secretaryship in 1876 through ill health . Was an enthusiastic cricketer . A powerful hitter , and made some large scores , especially in 1862, his best season . A good field , and could also bowl fast r o u n d-a r m. FRERE, HENRYTOBIAS (Hants).-Died Aug. 15, 1881 ; Born Sept. 27, 1830. A good fast bowler ; played for Gentlemen v. Players .
