A t Lord's , on M a y11 , in the second innings of Twenty-twoColts v. M.C.C. and Ground, 16 wickets of the Colts fell for 22 runs , eleven failing to score . O nSept. 3, in the match Birch v. Pendleton , Birch made 5 (1 extra ) and Pendleton 21 (5 extras ), so that 20 wickets tell for 20 runs from the bat. In the second innings of Yorkshire v. M.C.C. andGround at Scarborough , on Aug. 3, eight batsmen failed to score . In the match between Cardiff and Newport, Cardiff only made 16 and 15, and were beaten by an innings and 91 runs . In the match between Hutton (near Brentwood) and Shenfield , Shenfield with 63 w o nby an innings and 48 runs ; Huttononly scoring 7 and8. Big Hitting.--- In the match between North and South at the Oval , on July 14, Mr. F. Penn hit Alfred Shaw over the pavilion . In the match between M.C.C. and Ground and Revellers at Lord's , O'Shaughnessy (M.C.C. ) hit a ball from Thomas out of the ground . For Middlesex v. Gloucestershire , at Lord's , G. F. Vernon in second innings made 88 out of 1 0 9w h i l ein. G o o dWicketKeeping.-In Yorkshire's innings of 388 , at Hudders- field , v. Surrey , Mr. W. W. Read kept wicket without one extra . In the second innings of Eighteen of Holbeck v. A. Shaw's Eleven , Pilling got eight wickets . In the second innings of Sussex v. Surrey at the Oval, on Aug. 2, Mr. Carmichael took six wickets . M a t c h e so nthe Ice.-At Castle Dean, Penistone , in a matchbetween members of Yorkshire Steel andIron Works Club, Mr. J. Munton's side (65) beat Mr. E. Biltcliffe's side (45) by 20 runs . On Jan. 22 , Sheffield Skating Club, with Ulyett and Rowbotham, scored 66 against 50 of Worksop Cricket Club. On the following MondayWorksopscored 144, Sheffield 29 for one wicket . On the Tees, on Jan. 22, Mr. F. Adamson's side obtained 78, Mr. J. W. Siddall's Eleven 84 for three wickets . O n Jan. 17 at Chats- worth, a match between membersof the Sheffield Skating Club was played . Mr. B. Chatterton's side scored 57, Mr. M. J. Dodworth's 29. Close Finishes. In a matchArundel v. TwickenhamInstitute , the latter scored 57 and 34, Arundel 52 in first innings ; whentime was called Arundel, with 40 to win, hadgot 39 for three wickets-a tie . O n Sept. 3, for Granville v. Richmond, W. F. Jones , with the last ball of the day, took the tenth wicket of Richmond, his side just winningby 47 runs. O nDec. 18,1880 , in New South Wales , Oriental (Sydney) defeated Croydon by one run . On April 16, 1881 , Croydon beat Cambridge by one run .
