One of the best all -round players in England, being a good and safe bat, gifted with extraordinary patience ; played with a little more freedom last season , scoring more quickly ; a fine medium-pace left- handed bowler , with very few superiors now ; an excellent field at point . Has quite fulfilled expectations , having improved in batting, andmadesomevery good scores during past season ; plays good cricket , with plenty of confidence ; a useful left -hand bowler , and brilliant field at cover -point . A good fast round -arm bowler , of rather dubious delivery at times , very straight , and particularly deadly with his " yorkers ; " an improved bat, and can hit well . Has been a fast round -arm (right ) bowler , with a good spin , and still bowls ; fair bat and field ; was granted a benefit last year for his good services to the County of his adoption during last ten years .
