A pretty bat, playing hard on the off -side , but a little too anxious to get runs immediately on going in ; was not quite so successful last year ; a splendid field . SHUTER, L. A. Wasat times effective with the bat. playing good cricket ; a n uncertainfield. TROLLOPE, W. S. (Westminster). Has good defence, but lacks power; a change bowler (fast round) ; fair field . W Y L D, W. G. (Dulwich). Badefair to be of use to Surrey, but military duties haveremovedh i mfromchanceof first class cricket . S U S S E X . BETTESWORTH, W. A. First rate bat ; bowls good round-arm slows, and fields well ; gained Lord Sheffield's cup for highest batting average in 1881 , with an average of 29 for 16 innings . BLACKMAN, W. A very promising all -round m a n; good fast bowler and plucky bat ; his 89 last season made in less than an hour was a fine exhibition of powerful hitting ; fields well . ELLIS, R. T. A very effective bat, with strong defence ; energetic field . GREENFIELD, REV. F. F. J. (Cambridge ). Batted in good form last season ; excellent field ; bowls slows right hand. GRUNDY, G. G. (Harrow ). First -rate bat , left hand ; fields really well . KING, G. L. Goodbat; fields fairly ; takes wicket well . LUCAS, C. J. Goodbat and field , and occasional bowler . LUCAS, M. P. (Harrow). A splen ndid bat, excellent field , and occasional bowler ; played some fine innings in 1881 . MCCORMICK, E. J. Did not come up to the expectations of the county ; bats in good form , and has plenty of time to improve . N E W H A M, W. A very promising bat ; plays in good style , and is a capital field.
