MORTON, P. H. (Rossall and Cambridge) . O n of the best fast bowlers of the day, and very destructive ; has a great commandover the ball , with a wonderful break-back ; can field anywhere, and often gets runs . PATIESON , F. (Uppingham and Cambridge ). A very hard hitter , and has scored well during the past season ; good field . TILLARD , CHAS . (Repton and Cambridge ). Good round-arm bowler , very straight ; sure field , and free bat. W I C K H A M, A. P. (Marlborough and Oxford). First class wicket-keeper in every way, taking any bowling with ease and judgment; has made good scores during the season , and gets runs quickly , but was unable to play muchfor the county. S U R R E Y . Аввотт, W. (Winchester). A good wicket-keeper , standing well up to fast bowling, and taking on either side ; a moderate bat. AKROYD, S. H. (Radley). A brilliant batsman, and very difficult to dismiss if allowed to get set ; a safe field ; does not play at all for his county. BRAY, E. (Westminster and Cambridge ). Agood slow round -arm bowler ; poor bat and field . C A R M I C H A E L , J. W a s rather disappointing ; hits well , but was very nervous on going in , and never showed his form ; a good field at point , andvery fair wicket-keeper. CATTLEY, S. W. (Eton). Bats in neat style , but wants more hit ; a fair field. CLARKE, C. C. A splendid field ; at times successful as a slow round-arm bowler, and plays in good form. CLARKE, M. C. A very steady bat; fair field . E A R N S H A W, G. R. A steady bat, lacking in hitting power; wants more life in thefield. GAME, W. H. (Sherborne and Oxford ). A batsman with a style of his own, buthits hard, andis very dangerous if allowed to get set ; a fine long- field , with a fine throw in, but of late has growncareless . LINDSAY, W. (Winchester ) . A good bat, with a very pretty cut ; a splendid field , and a sure catch ; played some very useful innings during the s e a s o n . LUCAS, A. P. (Uppinghamand Cambridge). Oneof the very best cricketers of the day; plays correct and admirable cricket in perfect style , with wonderful defence , and hits perhaps a little more than he used ; a useful slow round-armbowler and fine field ; might be keener about CountyCricket ; played for Englandv. Australia . PARFITT, J. J. A fast round-arm bowler, getting up quickly from the pitch ; at times comesback a good deal ; was very useful to the team; fair field ; can hit well, but failed to showhis powers in county m a t c h e s. PONTIFEX, D. D. (Cambridge). Played someuseful innings for the county ; drives well , especially on the off -side , but is a little nervous on going in first ; moderatefield,
