A very safe wicket -keeper, rarely misses a chance, especially of a catch ; not successful as a bat, though he has great strength and can hit well. CRANSTON, J. Notts, and his 100 for the Gentlemenagainst the Players . A tthe commencementof the season seemed more inclined to hit , but played with his old effect later on, hitting all round freely and timing the ball with extraordinary precision ; his bowling was more ex- pensive , and had lost someof its spin ; a brilliant field anywhere, and neverloses interest in the g a m e.
